European reform underway for wine tourism

New opportunities to seize

The European Commission has just taken a major step: wine tourism is now fully integrated into the reform of the Common Market Organisation (CMO) in wine, through the 𝘗𝘢𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘵 𝘝𝘪𝘯 published on 28 March.

What is the future? For the first time, wine tourism projects led by ODGs or collective structures will be able to more easily access European funds – in particular EAFRD funds – to finance:

- reception or visiting facilities,

- promotional and signage actions,

- wine tourism training or animation tools.

A true recognition of the role of wine tourism as a lever for economic, cultural and sustainable development for wine-growing regions.

Concretely, how do you apply for European funding for a wine tourism project? Here are the main steps to follow for an ODG or a collective structure:

Find the right program: as a priority the EAFRD (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development), managed by the Regions,

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 your regional managing authority: it will inform you about current calls for projects, eligibility criteria, co-financing rates, etc.

Prepare a solid project report: project objectives, schedule, budget, expected impacts, monitoring indicators, etc.

Submit within the deadline: each call has its own schedule. Support from a specialized structure can make the difference.
